Parliament contributes shs35 million to Abiriga’s family

Members of Parliament have contributed over shs35 million to the family of the former Arua Municipality MP, the late Hon. Ibrahim Abiriga, who was murdered together with his brother in Kawanda in June 2018.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, handed over the contribution to the First Deputy Prime Minister, Gen Moses Ali, Friday, 12 October 2018. The money was raised from the different parliamentary fora, caucuses and individual Members.

“I hope that the family members have a plan on how to use the money and that you have a joint account with accountable and transparent members. We would like you to know that we lost a friend and wanted to make a contribution to your next phase of life,” Kadaga said.

Gen Moses Ali said that he would hold onto the money until the family opens a joint account with three signatories so that they can run the account to help the widow and orphans.

“I want you to open a joint account where we can put this money to help the family. Go and open an account today and we shall deposit this money before you go back to Madi District. In the meantime, I will have this money; you can pick it after opening the account,” he told the family members.
