The national rugby 7s team has been flagged off for the African 7s Championship that will be held on 13th and 14th of October 2018 in Monastir, Tunisia.
The rugby cranes are seeking to defend this title for the third time after winning it in Dubai in 2016 and defending it last year after beating Zimbabwe 10-7.in Kampala
12 players and 3 officials will represent Uganda at this years Africa Men’s Sevens where they will compete with 11 other teams.
The team Captain Micheal Wokorach promised a good show piece because the team has the experience and well prepared for the tournament
“we are well prepared, we have the experience and since we are the defending champions, we shall work more hard in Tunisia so we can defend our championship,” said Micheal Wokorach.
The team is joined by three new players, Massa Isaac, Haruna Muhammed and Ian Mugani whose experience will be an advantage to the team. Other players include Phillip Okoroch, Adrian Kasito, Pius Ogena, Solomon Okia, among others. Team Manager Micheal Wandera will head the delegation.
The cranes have been drawn with Senegal and Ghana in the same group in pool B. Kenya and Namibia are expected back after missing the last edition in Kampala last year.
Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Zambia, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Botswana, Ghana, Mauritius and Namibia are the teams that will compete for the Africa Mens Sevens African Championship.
