StarTimes Uganda Premier League: Mike Mutebi’s Men Drop Points As Vipers Go Top

KCCA FC dropped points in their second game of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after they were held to a goalless draw by Kirinya Jinja SS at the at the StarTimes Stadium.

  • KCCA FC v Kirinya Jinja SS was the fifth encounter between the two teams
  • This was Jinja SS’ first point at the StarTimes Stadium where they have conceded 7-goals
  • Vipers won their second game of the season to go top of the league with 6-points
  • Express – URA and BUL – Tooro ended goalless

Mike Mutebi’s men were hoping to make the most of home advantage, but their performance at their fortress was not hugely impressive as they had to be saved by both Charles Lukwago and the visitor’s ineffectiveness in front of goal on several occasions just to get a draw.

The Jinja based side looked significantly more dangerous in attack during the first half but only failed to take the lead because of the excellent defensive work to fend off waves of attacks from Joel Madondo, David Bagole and Faisal Muwawu.

A combination of poor movements and wanting execution were the biggest undoing for Charles Ayiekoh’s side who produced more attacking moments by the end of the first half.

The hosts had much more about them going forward in the second half dominating possession and keeping the Kirinya defense very busy, forcing blocks and heading away heavier balls. The post too had a role to play in denying Muzamir Mutyaba.

Ibrahim Sadam Juma’s replacement Allan Kyambadde injected some much-needed energy to the KCCA’s attack and they should have gone ahead by the 60th minute, only for Charles Ayiekoh’s tactics to make his side’s defense impervious to KCCA’s attempts to penetrate.

Seemingly frustrated by his team’s struggles in front of goal, Mike Mutebi made more changes towards the end, and the introduction of Steven Sserwada for Muwada Mawejje still could not inspire a breakthrough.

Kirinya earned only their second point against KCCA FC and their first at the StarTimes Stadium. Four-points for KCCA FC and two, now for Kirinya Jinja SS.

Davis Kasirye was on target for Vipers away at the Maroons’ Prisons Grounds.

Elsewehere, Defending Champions, Vipers SC came from a goal down to defeat Maroons 2-1 to go top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on match day II.

Pius Obuya put the hosts ahead, but Davis Kasirye and Moses Waiswa responded with strikes to hand the Prisons side a second defeat in a row.

Vipers go top of the log but will have to wait for results from Nyamityobora v Bright Stars and SC Villa v Ondurparaka to find out if they will last atop beyond twenty-four hours.

The other results produced scoreless draws and here’s a summary of Tuesday’s results

KCCA FC 0-0 Kirinya Jinja SS.

Maroons 1-2 Vipers SC

Express 0-0 URA

BUL 0-0 Tooro United
