Despite playing dull game on the day, Uganda Cup winners Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) lifted the FUFA Super Cup for the third time in a row after beating Uganda Premier League champions ,Vipers SC on Saturday at Wankulukuku.
The game ended in a barren draw in normal play before the teams went into spot kicks that saw Aggrey Madoi and Moses Waiswa blow Vipers’ chances when they failed to convert their penalties for the Lugogo based club to win 4-2.
Mustafa Kiiza, Hassan Musana , Bernard Muwanga and Julius Poloto all scored for KCCA FC whereas only Geoffrey Wasswa and Tito Okello converted their spot kicks for the Uganda Premier League champions.
Speaking shortly after the game, KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi said both team didn’t play to their best level but he partly blamed it on the state of the pitch at Wankulukuku.
“At the end of the day we won and this gives the new players’ confidence. We have also tested ourselves against one of the best sides in the league,”Mutebi said.
Goalkeeper Charles Lukwago also admitted the win was a big boost ahead of the new season that kicks off in a few days.
KCCA now takes the FUFA Super Cup trophy for keeps after winning it three times in a row but this is also the fourth silverware they have bagged in the last 100 days.
The Lugogo based team also won the FUFA super eight tournament, Phillip Omondi tournament and the Uganda Cup.
