Afcon 2019: Desabre trims squad as Cranes warms up for Tanzania

Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desbre has trimmed the team’s squad to only 24 players as the team warms up against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars.

Uganda will host their Tanzanian counterparts in the group L second game of the 2019 African nation’s cup on Saturday at the Mandela national stadium, Namboole.

On Monday, the   Cranes team trained for two hours at the Star Times stadium in Lugogo before the French tactician trimmed his squad to 24 players.

Those dropped included Ethiopia based midfielder Yasser Mugerwa,Allan Kyambadde,  Mustapha Mujuzi, Nicholas Ssebwato and Martin Kizza.

The remaining players will now enter a residential camp at Jokas Hotel, Bweyogerere after being joined by three more players including Salim Jamal, Godfrey Walusimbi and Edrisa Lubega.

Speaking shortly after the Monday training session, Joseph Ochaya said the Saturday game is for the Cranes to lose.

“We are set to win this match because it is crucial for us in the campaign,” the former KCCA FC defender said.

 Cranes squad for residential camp:

Goalkeepers: Denis Onyango , Jamal Salim and  Charles Lukwago.

 Defenders: Denis Iguma Nico Wakiro Wadada Godfrey Walusimbi, Isaac Muleme Murushid Juuko, Denis Timothy Awany, Hassan Wasswa

 Midfielders: Ibrahim Sadam Juma,Tadeo Lwanga ,William Luwagga Kizito, Joseph Ochaya ,Moses Opondo,Allan Kateregga,Khalid Aucho,Faruku Miya, Moses Waiswa.

Forwards: Emmanuel Arnold Okwi, Yunus Sentamu ,Edrisa Lubega, Derrick Nsibambi Patrick Henry Kaddu .
