Three feared dead after accident at Karuma dam

An accident at Karuma dam yesterday could have resulted into three deaths and scores of people injured.

According to a regional weekly, The East African, at least three people died when a truck carrying workers failed to brake and rammed into a side wall at the dam.

But in a statement, the management of the dam said "several workers were injured" without any fatalities.

"All the injured were immediately transferred to Lacor and Gulu Independent hospitals. No fatalities have been recorded," read part of the statement.

However UEGCL did not specify the number of those injured saying they are still verifying their identities.

President Museveni recently inspected the dam which is scheduled to be opened next year. Once completed, it will generate 600 MW.
