Rev Nkesiga condemns torture and humiliation of suspects

Anglican religious leaders have condemned police brutality and torture of people detained by security agencies.

Reverend Canon Diana Nkesiga said, "While arresting someone who is not armed, whether a man or woman, you do not need to undress them. I have seen in recent reports where women suspects have been undressed."

Rev. Nkesiga wondered, "Police needs to be patient and handle suspects with respect since they are not shooting or fighting them."

Rev Nkesiga made the comments on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 while addressing the media at the Uganda Media Centre. The presser was to announce the coming of the second Annual Women's World Conference that will take place on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Imperial Royal Hotel in Kampala.

Rev Nkesiga is attached to St. Francis Chapel in Makerere. Rev Nkesiga is a patron of the Women’s World Network in Uganda
