Fourth person, shot by police during #FreeBobiWine protests, dies

Lawrence Jjingo, who was shot by police during the #FreeBobiWine and  Francis Zaake protests in Mityana town  on August 19, has died, the Nile Post has learnt.

Jjingo becomes the fourth person to die as a result of the protests. We could not readily get his photograph.

Following the arrest and detention of Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine and Mityana Municipality’s Francis Zaake protests broke out in various parts of the country but met resistance from police and other security agencies.

Jjingo, 45, was among the passengers in a commuter taxi that was shot at by police in Mityana but he  succumbed to bullet wounds at Mulago hospital on Sunday.

On the fateful day, as residents in Mityna town demonstrated against Zaake’s detention, police fired live bullets at a commuter taxi registration number UBA 869C in which one Samuel Ssekiziyivu, a resident of Myanzi, died instantly.

Five other people including Jjingo were left gravely injured.

Jjingo’s death comes against the backdrop of Shs 5 million given to each of the injured people during the scuffle by President Museveni.

Rachael Ayebazibwe a finalist at Kyambogo University also died on Saturday after being hit by a stray bullet during the Monday 20th, August 2018 #FreeBobiWine protests in the city sending her into comma until she breathed her last.

Last week, Vincent Ssemungaya, a boda boda rider died instantly after police shot him during the #FreeBobiWine protests in Gomba, Kyagulanyi’s home district.
