General Kayihura Relatives Arrive at General Court Martial for Trial

There are strong indications that General Kale Kayihura will make his first appearance at the General Court Martial in Makindye today.

General Kayihura's lawyers led by Joseph Matsiko, Elson Karuhanga, Peter Kabatsi and Jet Tumwebaze are on the scene.

General Kayihura's relatives clad in black t-shirts with inscriptions that read, "We Stand with General Kale Kayihura," are also making their way into the barracks where the court sits.

General Kayihura's son has also been spotted at Makindye today morning.

Security checks at Makindye are more thorough than usual

There is visibly heightened security deployment at the facility.

General Kayihura was dropped as Inspector General of Police by President Yoweri Museveni on Monday, March 05, 2018 after nearly thirteen years at the helm of the police body. Kayihura was the longest serving IGP at the time of his dismissal.

He was succeeded by John Martin Okoth Ochola.

On June 13, 2018, Kayihura was arrested from Lyantonde ending months of speculation. General Kayihura's arrest was effected by the deputy chief of Defence Forces Lt. General Wilson Mbadi.
