Kampala bursts into premature celebration after Court Martial terminates Bobi Wine charges

Crowds downtown Kampala gathered to celebrate Bobi Wine’s temporary release by Gulu Court Martial, but their hopes suffered failure after the Kyadondo East Legislator was later rearrested and dragged to another court.

Police and Military meanwhile stayed guard in the city, alert for any sparks of chaos, jubilation or both. By 11a.m. everyone was glued on TV, following events in Gulu court Martial.

Kisekka market was already charged up to celebrate Bobi Wine’s freedom. Businesses stalled as everyone moved out on streets waiting for the opportune moment; Bobi Wine made a free man.

On seeing live broadcast courtesy of NBS TV, showing the court martial declaring Bobi Wine a free man, people erupted in joy and ululations, boda boda cyclists cruised with beeping horns, most of them carrying a passenger or two and chanting people power slogans.

“People Power, Our Power, Free Bobi Wine” were the chants the filled the air downtown and a few city suburbs for sometime paralyzing traffic.

Alas, the chanting was only short-lived, after police rearrested Bobi Wine during his freedom break. The noise died unceremoniously, and people slowly dispersed on their own to further their different businesses.
