Two police officers arrested over death of civilian in Mityana demo

Police has arrested two of its officers in connection with the killing of a civilian during the Mityana protests yesterday.

The officers identified as Kefa Moses and Cheptai Morris were arrested yesterday following an investigation into the shooting and killing of Samuel Sekiziyivu, a civilian that was killed during the protests.

Five other civilians were injured during the protests.

The Protests broke out in Mityana, a constituency of Zaake Francis, the legislator who was beaten and tortured at the hands of security organs during the by election in Arua.

Zaake remains in critical condition.

Police say the arrested officers will soon be produced in court.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police Okoth Ochola, said in a statement issued earlier today that at least 23 suspects had been arrested during the Mityana demo.

They will be screened, fully investigated and those culpable will be taken to court for prosecution on the offences of inciting violence, threatening violence and malicious damage to property," Ochola said.
