Kenya Airways' passengers injured in bus accident

A total of 33 Kenya Airways' passengers and one driver were injured in a bus accident in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi early Monday, the airline said.

The Kenyan carrier said in a statement that 30 of the injured have been successfully treated and discharged while three of the passengers are still undergoing treatment.

The Chinese embassy in Kenya confirmed that the 33 injured include five tourists from the Chinese mainland and 15 from Taiwan.

The airline said the passengers were injured when a shuttle van traveling along Nairobi's busy Mombasa road was hit from behind by a trailer, and the van went off the road.

"Our main priority remains our guests' wellbeing. We have opened a guest support center at the airport offering guidance and information to the affected family and friends. Dedicated family lines are now active for family members," it said.

The airline said the passengers were scheduled to leave Nairobi on Sunday night but due to a technical problem on the scheduled aircraft, the flight was rescheduled, prompting the airline to accommodate the passengers at a hotel.

Kenya Airways said its security and the police were deployed to the scene at the time of the accident.
