Uganda U17 National team off to Tanzania for AFCON zonal Qualifiers

A team of 20 players jetted out of the country on Tuesday morning at 7:00am to Tanzania for the qualifiers for the Under 17 AFCON starting 12th August.

11 of the 20 featured in the 2018 CECAFA U17 Championship in Burundi in which Uganda finished third.

The Peter Onen coached side will compete in Group B alongside Ethiopia, Djibouti, South Sudan and Kenya.

Uganda’s first encounter be against Ethiopia on the 12th of August followed by fixtures against South Sudan on 17th, Kenya on 19th and finally Djibouti on 22nd.

Speaking to Nile post before the team's departure, head coach Peter Onen said they had ample preparations and he believes they will compete.

"We played five friendlies where we won 4 and drew the other and that gives us a lot of confidence. Apart from South Sudan and Djibouti who didn’t take part in the 2018 U17 CECAFA Championships that were held in Burundi , all other teams were there and we saw the way they play and now know the tricks they always use .”
