Amolatar leaders petition Parliament over CAO

The district leadership of Amolatar has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, seeking Parliament’s intervention following alleged misappropriation of public funds by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

The LC5 Vice Chairperson Amolatar, Geoffrey Ocen told the Speaker on Friday, 3 August, 2018 that the CAO, Pius Epaju has misappropriated shs1.5 billion from the departments of health, works and education.

Ocen who led a delegation comprising of Hon. Anthony Okello (NRM, Kyoga) and Hon. Doreen Amule (NRM, Amolatar) as well as 13 district Councillors, 5 LCIII Chairpersons and Opinion leaders, accused the Amolatar District Chairperson of conniving with the CAO.

“We reported the issue to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and that of Local Government but for over a year now, no action has been taken,” said Ocen.

Ocen now wants Parliament to direct that the CAO be transferred with immediate effect.

“Parliament should also suspend transfer of funds to Amolatar until a new CAO is deployed. We also want the Ministry of Finance and that of Local Government to stop CAO from warranting or accessing the current funds,” said Ocen.

Speaker Kadaga pledged to address the matter with the responsible ministries. She commended the officials for their vigilance in the fight against corruption.

“It is regrettable that all these things have been happening. We shall help you so that Amolatar does not sink,” said Kadaga.
