Prices of pharmaceutical products to increase

Prices of pharmaceutical products to increase

The latest report by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) indicates that prices for pharmaceutical products are set to increase in the coming months.

The increase in the price of the products which include human and animal drugs is likely to increase the cost of healthcare. Some of the products whose prices could increase include anti-malarials and acaricides.

The rise is attributed to the increase in the prices of inputs.

According to the report released by UBOS indicates for the month ending June 2018, the prices of commodities in the manufacturing sector are increasing rapidly compared to the same month last year.

The sharp rise in prices is attributed to the increase of electricity by 50% last months and the depreciation of shilling against the dollar.

Since last month, the shilling has been trading between 3789 and selling at 3879. The statics body says this has also been affected by prices of exports.
