Yvonne Chaka Chaka to raise funds for construction of 1200 schools

South African music icon, Yvonne Chaka Chaka is set to perform a music show at Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday to raise funds for the construction of 1200 schools for disabled and street children across the country.

The revelation was made on Wednesday by South African High Commissioner to Uganda, Prof. Maj Gen (rtd) Lekoa Solly Mollo, during the Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu Centennial Celebrations, at Nelson Mandela Stadium, Namboole.

“Yvonne Chaka Chaka is a role model and referred to as; Princess of Africa because of her commitment to protect children from taking drugs. She will be performing this Friday to raise funds for construction of 1200 schools at Kampala Serena Hotel”, he said.

He reminded those present of the role the late South African president and freedom fighter Nelson Mandela played in liberating Africans from the yoke of dictatorship and apartheid.

“Nelson Mandela is alive spiritually and you should love children like he did”.

Mandela would have been 100 years on July 18 had he lived. He died in 2013.

The Guest of Honor, King Oyo Kabamba Iguru of Toro Kingdom, called upon Ugandans to emulate the late Nelson Mandela through; loving one another.

He hailed South African High Commission for standing with Ugandans, in promoting peace and prosperity.

On her part, Yvonne Chaka Chaka said: “We need to teach our children to love God and emulate the works of Mandela. I have come to Uganda to take the children out of the streets”, she said.

She said Nelson Mandela is the founder of freedom for everyone.

“There is no one like the late Mandela and I wish he was alive”, she said.
