Woman burnt with hot water for bewitching co-wife

Police in Mukono have arrested  a man for allegedly pouring hot water  onto one of his wives.

Ephraim Luyira (36), was arrested for over the weekend for reportedly pouring hot water onto his wife Betty Nyamiradayizima after a domestic wrangle.

According to police, a fight between ensued between the couple after Luyira reportedly claimed that  Nyamiradayizima was bewitching her co wives.

Luyira has three wives.

"After recent  problems at one of her co-wifes' home, Luyira returned home  bitter and  started beating up Nyamiradayizima for  causing misfortunes to his co-wives,"Kampala metropolitan area police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said.

"He grabbed a saucepan of hot water from  the  charcoal stove and poured  it on her."

It is reported that in the scuffle, the wife made an alarm that attracted neighbours who called police to arrest Luyira.

The victim was later rushed to Lugazi hospital where she is currently admitted with severe wounds.

Luyira is expected to face charges related to causing grievous body harm
