First Lady Janet Museveni cautions judiciary on corruption

The First Lady and Minister of Education Janet Kataha Museveni last week cautioned members of the judiciary against engaging in corrupt malpractices such as bribery.

She echoed the warning at a Christian Lawyers Conference, hosted in Kampala by Faith and Law Around the Globe (FLAG) Christian Organisation, where she was guest of honour.

“Delaying of cases through expecting bribes is one form of corruption, which is why you should render justice in accordance with the will of God”, she said.

She called upon judiciary to endeavour to be the least corrupt organ in government.

She cited the biblical King David who said: “ The strength of a Nation is anchored on Love, faithfulness and Justice, according to Psalms Chapter 89 verses 14-15”.

She advised members of the judiciary to always set aside a little time of their busy schedules to read the bible and listen to what God says.

On his part, the Deputy Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo  called upon lawyers and judges to practice humility and love as Jesus did.

“When the Pharisees brought an adulterers woman to be judged before Jesus, he asked if there was any who had never committed the offence of adultery to be the first to throw a stone at her," he said.

Danny De Walt, a pastor and lawyer said Christian lawyers should not undermine Jesus Christ however leaned they may be.
