Court allows Police confiscate phones, computers for bedridden MP Nambooze
The Chief Magistrates court in Nakawa has given police a go-ahead to confiscate mobile phones, computers tablets and any other communication equipment from Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, Betty Nambooze who is currently bedridden at Kirudu hospital.
The legislator was last week arrested from her home in Mukono and detained at Naggalama police station but later admitted to Kiruddu hospital after her health condition deteriorated.

She had been arrested over offensive communication in regards to remarks she made on social media after the murder of Arua Municipality legislator Col.Ibrahim Abiriga.
Police Criminal Investigations Division however this week applied to have her gadget’s confiscated to help them in investigations in the matter.
On Wednesday, the Nakawa chief magistrate Jamson Karemani gave the state a green light to confiscate the gadgets.
“It is hereby ordered that the respondent’s computers, mobile phones and tablets be retrieved and used in investigations in the case,” reads in part the order from the Nakawa chief magistrate.
“They will not be held more than 14 days subject to renewal of the time by this court.”
On Thursday, police officers from CID served the court order to the bedridden Nambooze at Kirudu.
Speaking to journalists shortly, one of Nambooze’s lawyers, Erias Lukwago described the act as sickening and torturing.
“It is nothing else but torture to get somebody bedridden and battling for her life and you bring obnoxious orders that you want her items when you know she has been in your custody since last week,”Lukwago fumed.
The Kampala Lord Mayor lashed out at police for behaving in an inhumane manner towards the legislator.
Nambooze’s lawyers early this week petitioned the Uganda Human Rights commission seeking powers to invoke the constitution and order for her immediate release so she can fly for further medical review.
She was scheduled to fly to India for review following a spine operation in November at Manipal Hospital following the September 27 fracas during the climax of the age limit debate in parliament.
