Former Nigeria's media officer slams social media users for questioning 19-year-old Super Eagles goal keeper's age

World Cup

Nigeria's national team which is currently participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was named one of the youngest squads at this year’s tournament with an average of 25 years, a statement that was welcomed with mixed reactions by social media users world over.

The 'super eagles' first choice goal keeper Francis Uzoho, who plays his trade for Deportivo La Coruna in Spain was one of those who came under scrutiny by football fans who felt that he is way older than what his passport says, (19)

Earlier this week, an article surfaced on different social media platforms postulating that the 19-year-old had celebrated his second son's 17th birthday on his Facebook account before going ahead to delete the post moments later.

This however seems not to have settled well with Colin Udoh a former media officer of the Nigerian national football team who slammed the accusations in a brief but emotional post on his Instagram account saying that they should 'slap some sense' into their own heads before carrying on with the rumours.

'To all you muppets going on about Francis Uzoho's age, this is what he looked like in 2013 when he was a 14-year-old in the under 17 camp. Feel free to slap some sense into your own heads since looks is now a determinant for age," the ex official lamented in a statement before going on to share a photo of Francis at the age of 14.

Francis Uzoho at 19 years old became the youngest player at 2018 Fifa World Cup edition when he stepped out to represent Nigeria in their first round encounter were they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Croatia.

The super eagles now take on Iceland on Friday, June 22nd in what is looked at as a 'must win' if their World Cup hopes and dreams are to remain intact.
