WORLD CUP: England ‘Kane’ African representatives Tunisia

World Cup

The story for all African representatives in Russia seems to be the same after Tunisia became the third team to be beaten in their opening group G game of the World Cup.

Skipper Harry Kane's brace ensured England started their campaign on a high note on the expense of the African representatives in a game played in Volgograd.

The Tottenham striker gave Gareth Southgate’s side a deserved lead on 11 minutes into play when the Tunisian goalkeeper Mouez Hassen fumbled with a John Stone header for the opener.

The queen’s boys created a number of chances but most of them went begging prompting Tunisia to capitalise on this to punish them through a Ferjani Sassi equaliser from a penalty spot after Kyle Walker elbowed Fakhreddine Ben Youssef.

Tunisia kept their resisted against the attacks from the English until the stoppage time when Harry Kane beat them again off a Harry Maguire flick for the second and winner for the day.

This was England’s first win in the opening game of a major tournament since the 2006 World Cup when they beat Paraguay.

Lukaku guides Belgium

In the first game of the group, Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku scored twice as Belgium beat tournament debutants Panama in their group G opener.

Following a goalless first half, Belgium came raring before grabbing the opener only two minutes after through a Dries Mertens volley.

Panama almost scored an equaliser a few minute later but Thibaut Courtois saved the day.

Meanwhile, Lukaku scored twice in the 69th and 75th minutes to seal victory for Belgium to top Group G.

England are second on the same number of points but with an inferior goal difference.
