Three arrested for breaking into Government Analytical Laboratory

Police has arrested three people for allegedly breaking into the Government Analytical Laboratory in Wandegeya, the Nile Post has learnt.

The government facility was last month broken into and according to reports, some of the items allegedly stolen included computers where samples to be used as evidence in the case of the  gruesome murder of former police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi .

However according to Kampala Metropolitan Area police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, three people were last night arrested and confessed to have participated in the break-in.

“We first arrested one Abdul Wabera who confessed having participated in the act and later led us to Andrew Okello and Bosco Anyanzo,”Owoyesigyire told this website on Monday.

It is alleged that the three people had also participated in breaking in at the Ministry of Health offices last week and they were arrested trying to force themselves into the offices again.

“The two confessed that Okello buys from them the property stolen from the various offices,” the Kampala Metropolitan police mouthpiece added.

The inspector general of Police Martin Okoth Ochola recently allayed fears of disruption in investigations in a number of murder cases following the breaking - in at the government facility.

Ochoal told journalists that no valuable exhibit had been taken during the break –in , assuring the  public that the force is progressing well with the various investigations

The government analytical laboratory falls under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and helps do forensic analysis of exhibits and samples to guide and facilitate investigations and prosecutions.

The facility also helps do forensic advisory services at crimes scenes among other duties.

The Government Analytical Laboratory currently handles analysis of evidence in Kaweesi and Joan Kagezi murders among others.
