KIU Titans run over City Oilers

The KIU Titans smacked City Oilers 73-64 in the National Basketball League (NBL) in a bid to maintain pace on log leaders BetWay Power in a thrilling encounter on Friday, at YMCA.

In a tightly contested game from the start, the Mandy Juruni coached reigning champs somehow showed that they were still a more fired up side taking the first period 18-16 as KIU also never backed off.

Then in the second period the Titans had engaged in gear two and stepped up to an incredible defensive play as well as on offense going into the intermission with a 35-27 lead , thanks Michael Bwanga's 10 points in that quarter hence finishing with a game-high 19 .

From that point onwards the Kansanga-based side never looked back hence storming to an 18 and 19 in the last two phases that saw the Oilers wilt down mostly in the last frame of the garnering only 8 points in that period.

Forward Denis Balungu and guard Samuel Agutu added 13 and 12 points apiece for the Titans with earlier bringing down 9 boards on the night.

The defeat marked the Oilers second loss in the season having earlier being beaten by Power in their game opener (64-56).

Tonny Drilleba amassed a team-high 13 points, Landry Ndikumana 12 and Jimmy Enabu added 10 points .

And in the ladies category, the JKL Dolphins shocked the UCU as they eked out a 50 -46 victory.
