Tanga Odoi: "NRM messed up in Jinja East, Rukungiri will be different"

Featured

Ahead of the Rukungiri Woman MP by election slated for tomorrow, the NRM electoral commission chief Dr Tanga Odoi has said the party has learnt lessons from their  mistakes in Jinja East that cost them victory.

FDC's Paul Mwiru defeated NRM's Igeme Nabeta to clinch the Jinja East seat.

"We are more alert. We are more organised," Odoi said.

Odoi's remarks to journalists yesterday were seen as veiled attacks to NRM secretary general, Kasule Lumumba who led the Jinja East team.

Lumumba and Odoi are not the best of friends and two have bickered publicly.

The Rukungiri poll is a tight affair with NRM Winnie Masiko battling FDC's Betty Muzanira.

President Museveni has spent the last couple of days in Rukungiri canvassing votes for Masiko while Besigye has camped in the district for the last two weeks doing the same for Muzanira.

Therefore the Rukungiri election is seen by many political observers as another extension of the long standing political battle between Museveni and Besigye.

Meanwhile the NRM yesterday announced dates for primary elections for the seats in newly created municipalities, town councils and sub counties.

With nominations a few days away, the party has set June 2nd and 4th as dates on which the flag bearers will be picked.
