President Museveni has trashed an earlier directive by the Minister of Education and Sports, also his wife and First Lady Janet Museveni to Makerere University Business School (MUBS) principal, Wasswa Balunwa asking him to step down.

Ms Museveni had earlier  written to the Education Service Commission to speed up the process of getting a replacement for Prof.Waswa Balunywa as the Makerere University Business School (MUBS) principal.

In the letter, the Education minister also asked the Education Service Commission to ensure they finalise the process of appointment of the next MUBS principal before Prof. Balunywa’s contract expires to ‘’avoid a leadership vacuum’’ at MUBS.

However, Janet Museveni’s boss and husband President Museveni has quashed the directive issuing a fresh one which entails the immediate re-appointment of Balunywa.

According to a letter dated May, 28, 2019 that has been accessed by Nile Post, the president noted that Balunywa has always been on the liberation side ideology in addition to being an active administrator.

“His institution has been free of strikes. I have never found him averse to advice the times I have interacted with him,” Museveni argued.

" I am writing to direct you to re-appoint Professor Wasswa Balunywa as the Principle of MUBS for another term on the expiry of this one. One of the obstacles that have wasted our time is a disoriented pro-imperialism academia.”

The president added that he has personally interacted with professor and has found him as 'such a good person to work with.'

Balunywa who has been at realm of the Nakawa based Business School for 21 years was pushed to the side lines following a council meeting and consequently, replacing him with his assistant, Professor Moses Muhwezi.

Balunywa's contract expired this month and since then controversy around its renewal has been the topic of discussion around the gates of the Makerere University affiliate.
