FDC will not take you anywhere, Museveni tells Rukungiri

Featured

President Museveni has urged voters in Rukungiri district to vote for the NRM flag bearer, Winnie Masiko as the Woman district MP in the by-election slated for May 31.

Masiko faces stiff competition from FDC's Betty Muzanira who successfully challenged her election in court.

Rukungiri is also a stronghold of Dr Kizza Besigye, the former FDC president.

Campaigning for Masiko yesterday, Museveni said voting an opposition candidate will retard development in the area as such an MP will only resist the government programmes at the expense of the people's demands.

Museveni said that under multiparty politics, decisions are taken from a party round table where opposition leaders are non members.

"I am here to ask you to vote Winfred Masiko. Why? She is NRM and the FDC candidate won't take you anywhere", he said.

He further warned voters against sectarian politics based on religions or tribes, warning that such practices were partly the major reasons for the chaotic scenes in the past regimes.

He also called upon residents in different sub counties to engage in household income generating projects.

Museveni addressed four rallies in Nyakishenyi, Nyarushanje, Buyanja and Kebisoni sub counties.

On her part, Masiko outlined several projects under implementation by her office and asked the people of Rukungiri to vote her for continuity of services in the district.

All rallies were attended and addressed by the deputy secretary general, Richard Todwong, Maj Gen (rtd) Jim Muhwezi, Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde and Rubabo MP Paula Turyahikayo among others.
