Police in Kampala are holding a man for impersonation, extortion and being in possession of government stores.
Jeff Kalanzi, 37, a resident of Mutundwe was arrested Wednesday following a report from a one Ambrose Mworozi who accused the former of conning him of Shs2m as facilitation to get an appointment with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba.
“The unsuspecting victim paid but was unable to meet the Secretary General on the agreed date until he realised over time he had been conned,” a statement from police reads.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, the suspect has been posing as a personal assistant to Lumumba and also full time employee at the NRM Secretariat.
Kalanzi was also found driving a Toyota Mark II vehicle with a number plate marked as as ‘M7 2040’, was clad in military attire and had a fake Walkie Talkie.
Kalanzi is currently detained at Kira Road Police Station and is to be arraigned before court.
