Rugby Cranes Elgon cup team named

Uganda Rugby Cranes have named their 23-man squad for Saturday’s Elgon Cup clash at home to Kenya at the Legends Rugby Ground.

Seven players will have the opportunity to pick up a senior cap in the 15s having made the grade including Ian Munyani, Paul Ssekate, Edgar Pajob, Simon Olet, Emong Eliphaz, Nathan Bwambale and Adrian Kasito.

Robert Seguya the assistant coach believes this is a much improved side.

“We have tried to fix everything, I am sure the boys are ready”, he said.

Asuman Mugerwa takes over the captaincy role in the absence of the injured Brian Odong with Justin Kimono stepping in as Vice Captain.

Adnan Mutebi, Robert Aziku, Brian Asaba, Bryon Oketayot and Saul Kivumbi make the team alongside usual suspects Phillip Wokorach, Aaron Ofoyrwoth and Eric Mula.

Marvin Odongo scorer of two tries in last year’s meeting at the same ground, Musa Muwonge, James Odongo, Ivan Magomu, Ivan Kirabo and Pius Ogena complete the 23-man squad.

“This is our third year in the Africa Gold Cup campaign and we cannot wear the under dog tag anymore, we have built something and should be competitive,” added Rugby Cranes Coach John Duncan.

The opening leg of the annual tie between the two rivals is scheduled for Saturday, May 26 at Legends Rugby Grounds.
