The Uganda Hippo’s hopes of advancing to the next round in the U20 African Nations Cup qualifiers were all but extinguished after they crushed out to a 5-4 penalty shoot-out against Cameroon Lions in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
The hosts had won 1-0 win in normal time to equal the Hippos who won by a similar scoreline in Kampala.
The Hippo’s went into the second leg encounter needing only a draw. They put up a spirited fight until the 67th- minute when the hosts (Lions) levelled matters through a penalty by Nkeng Tadeus having adjudged defender Mustafa Kizza for a foul play in the box.
With two minutes left on the clock coach Mathias Lule tried out a masterpiece of substituting his first choice goalkeeper Saidi Keni for Denis Otim.
Lule had expected that Otim would be better when it comes to penalty-shoot outs but the change did not yield results.
