Police in Mukono have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing a baby from her pay masters and presenting it to her boyfriend as their own child.
Babirye Nakilya, had been working as a maid at the home of Andrew Lubega and Catherine Nalwanga in Namwezi, Goma, Mukono District, when she disappeared with their 2-months old baby and presented it to her boyfriend, Wilson Tumusiime.

Nakilya had informed Tumusiime that she had bore him twins only to show up with one child. Tumusiime says that Nakilya claimed that the other twin half had been retained by her ex-boyfriend following a disagreement.
“She told me we have twins aged 2 months, only for her to bring me a child aged 5 months. When I asked where the other child was, she said her ex-boyfriend, an Indian had retained it,” Tumusiime said.
He added that Nakilya’s story failed to connect, prompting him to report the matter to the nearby police station.
A statement from Kampala Metropolitan Police confirms the baby has been reunited with its parents.
"The 7 months child has now been re-united with its mother, but police continues with investigations," the statement reads in part.
“We had been looking (for the child and maid) and were almost getting tired when someone informed us that she had been arrested,” Lubegda said on recovering their child.
