CECAFA women challenge cup postponed

Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has postponed hosting of the 2018 CECAFA Women Challenge Cup that was scheduled to be staged in Kigali City from May 12-22, 2018.

The decision to postpone the tournament was taken by FERWAFA Management on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.

With just a few days to the start of the tournament initially set for Saturday, May 12, 2018, FERWAFA the Rwanda Football Association has not received funds to host the tournament from CECAFA as agreed last month despite repeated correspondences and calls to the CECAFA Secretariat requesting hosting funds to be availed.

“When we get hosting funds, we will decide on suitable dates when we can reschedule the tournament,” said Bonny Mugabe the Communication director at FERWAFA.

“Our team's preparations will continue today in Lubowa with a friendly that has been lined up. We shall be in position to communicate to the Crested Cranes technical team on the arrangements to plan for training sessions,” said Ahmed Hussien the FUFA spokesperson.

“This isn't the best of the news for the team as they really looked focused for the tournament,” He added.

The Uganda Crested Cranes side has been conducting non-residential training and was hoping to improve on their fourth-placed finish at last edition held in Njeru in 2016.
