Ex-IGP Erinayo Oryema's family seeks justice over land

BENSON ONGOM

The family of the first IGP, Erinayp Oryema is seeking to regain over 6000 Hectares  of  land lost to allegedly a top government  official.

This comes years after President Museveni ordered that the land be returned to the family, an order that appears to have been ignored.

Among whom is  Gen Otema Alwany, who  claims ownership of  the contested land .

But records from Nwoya land board however, reveal the late Oryema as the rightful owner.

"He owns the land," said Zeru Abukha the chairman of Nwoya land board.

The family has been battling squatters since 2014  at  the  invite  of  Gertrude Oryema, a daughter  to the  deceased

Alex Onen, a  brother to  the deceased who after death of Oryema  kept  the  title  for over a year, blames the current land impasse on Getrude.

The family claims Getrude offered 2,000  hectares of land  to Gen Otema who off camera acknowledged the claim and is willing  to return it,  if  the family meet his asking price of Shs 440 million.

Getrude Oryema,  speaking on phone did not  dismiss the relationship with  Gen Otema.

Getrude  had the power of administration of Oryema’s property until 2016 .

With all the avenues tested, the family now seeks the highest office for  intervention
