Over 1000 to graduate at LDC

A total of 1303 students are set to graduate in various course at the Law Development Centre today. According to officials, the various students will graduate with diplomas in human rights and diplomas in law among other awards.

Among those to graduate include; former minister for information Kabakumba Masiko and singer Sylvester Kyagulanyi.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Mike Chibita will to be the chief guest at the function held at Makerere.

MP for Lwemiyaga, Theodore Ssekikuubo had petitioned the High court in Kampala to block the graduation ceremony claiming the institution gave some of the students ‘special’ examinations.

The documents he filed on Tuesday 24th, April 2018 indicate that LDC approved 312 students who had initially passed their subsequent Diploma in Legal Practice course in a meeting held in December 2017 but went ahead to confirm that 201 students were to sit for supplementary examinations in the subjects that were indicated against their names but the board approved strange results which he feels that were discriminatory to his side as since he was never passed with only one option of sitting for the supplementary exams.

However, High Court deputy registrar Sarah Langa declined to grant the orders saying that graduation is a long process that cannot simply be halted adding that the court can at any time cancel the qualifications of those found to be on the graduation list illegal.
