Team Uganda arrives in Australia for Common Wealth Games

The head of Uganda’s contingent at the recently concluded Gold Cost Commonwealth games, has disclosed another athlete vanished in Australia.

Beatrice Ayikoru says that the number of Ugandan athletes that disappeared while on duty in Australia now stands at 6, following the disappearance of Veinna Ssekanga, a cyclist.

Last week, the Ugandan team returned to the country but were less than three after weight lifters Irene Kasuubo and Kalidi Batuusa took off while in Australia. But Ayikoru has since revealed that two boxers; Regan Ssimbwa, Nasir Bashir and table tennis female player Halima Nambozo also disappeared.

“We handed over the four passports and reported the matter to the Gold Coast boarder Police before returning,”she said.

State Minister of Sports, Charles Bakkabulindi, had earlier the athletes to return to the country as soon as possible, citing he is tired of having athletes from the teams always vanishing when abroad.

“If they do not return, they will never represent Uganda again, , we are going to pout stricter measures on this athletes that disappear when they travel to represent the country, they are giving us a bad image,” he said.

Bakkabulindi tasked the officials with the team to explain how athletes accessed their passports to enable them vanish.
