Police on Thursday afternoon swung into action firing bullets to disperse angry traders at Kisekka market who had staged a demonstration.

According to eyewitnesses, the chaos started when Kampala Capital City Authority enforcement officers reined on mechanics who were operating in the middle of the road.

“KCCA begun their operation by plucking off number plates from all vehicles parked in the middle of the road which angered the mechanics into setting bonfires in the middle of Kyaggwe road,”said Paul Mukasa, a trader at a nearby building.

Meanwhile, police led by CPS DPC Joseph Bakaleke swung into action arresting five of the protesters.

“KCCA has for a long time been speaking to the traders especially mechanics to desist from operating in the road because the oils and other fluids destroy the road. When KCCA tried to enforce this, some of these lit fire in the middle of the road,”Bakaleke said.

“We have arrested them to help lead us to the organisers of this protest," he said.

Police is currently deployed on the watch at the place to avoid a repeat of the riot.

Kisekka market has in the past been home to riots over a number of issues but these have since reduced .
