Betway Power win UCU invitational basketball tournament

The Betway Power basketball club were crowned as 2018 champions of the Uganda Christian University (UCU) Invitational basketball tournament having narrowly squeezed past the KIU Titans in a 50-48 victory.

The win marked Powers first ever championship at the University's tournament since its inception, thanks to Stephen Wundi's brilliant performance in both the finals and semi finals games as hosts UCU Canons simply failed to make it the past group stages.

Wundi paced the Betway sponsored side to victory with around 15 points as he shoot lights out behind the three-point arc and scored easily on fast break lay ups.

Then power skipper Joseph Ikong and Philip Ameny were the other top performers on the evening.

Power beat Sharing Youth in the semi finals 50-45 in a tightly contested game and KIU saw off the Old Tymers 80-40 as the two set up a thrilling finals showdown.

Sharing took the second runner up accolade of the tournament as they used the fourth quarter to seal off the Old Tymers with a 38-32 win.

In the ladies category, hosts UCU lady canons slightly edged past the JKL Dolphins with a 42-39 win to lift the 2018 edition championship.

KIU Rangers beat Angels Basketball Club as they also took home the second runners up accolade to add on the men's first runner up title.

On the other note, not even the mid day heavy downpour could cause any more postponement of the games as fans were fully entertained and enjoyed games as players played on wet surfaces as ball lovers you know what it means.
