The police disciplinary court has demoted former Buyende and Old Kampala District Police Commander after being found guilty of unnecessary exercise of authority.

Kirumira had earlier been convicted of unnecessary exercise of authority contrary to section 44 of the police code of conduct when he arrested Flying Squad operatives before parading them before Bukedde television and Kamunye journalists in 2014 while still the Officer in Charge of Nansana police station.

The disciplinary court subsequently recommended for demotion from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police to Assistant Inspector of Police.

The court also convicted him on other counts of unnecessary exercise of authority but he was only reprimanded.

The police council will now have to sit to decide whether to uphold or not the decision by the disciplinary court.

Speaking to Nile Post,Kirumira said he would appeal the sentence.

Last year, several senior police officers convicted of assaulting supporters of opposition strongman Dr.Kizza Besigye were demoted but later they appealed against the punishments.

They have since been redeployed by the police force.
