MPs on fact finding mission tour of URA border stations

A delegation from the Finance and Economic Planning committee of parliament is on a fact finding mission tour of the Uganda Revenue Authority border stations in Uganda.

The committee will be looking at among other things; border operations, challenges faced by Ugandan tax collectors at boarders, as well as observing the workings of initiatives like One Stop Border Post, Non-intrusive inspection, The Single Customs Territory and the Uganda Electronic Single Window.

According the URA Manager Public and Corporate Affiars, Ian Rumanyika, this is mainly an accountability tour to fact check what government money has done for trade facilitation through the various initiatives and how the the efforts are changing the face of cross border trade in the region.

The delegation is led by the Committee chairman, Henry Musasizi, (MP Rubanda (East. And includes other legislators;  Odonga Otto, Lawrence Bategeka, Lilly Adong , Anthony Okello, Franca Akello and Elly Asiku.

Others are; James Niringiyimana, Francis Mukula, Hawib Katoto and John Bagole

“The tour commenced on Friday with the visit to the Busia and Malaba One Stop Border Post. The tour is set to cover the border posts in the East and North of Uganda including Lwakhakha, Elegu, Afogi, Oraba, Lia, Vurra and Goli,” Rumanyika added.
