Religious leaders under their umbrella body, the Uganda Joint Christian Council have blasted government for failure on its cardinal duty of providing security to Ugandans.

In the recent past, over 10 people have been kidnapped and a number of them found dead after missing for a number of days.

Speaking during the day to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus on Friday at the Old Kampala playground, the Archbishop for Kampala arch-diocese Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga said the country is grappling with a number of issues that government has failed to deal with.

“Our country is grappling with a lot of challenges .The gruesome murder of women and men is continuing,”Lwanga said.

“There are many issues of small arms but we all ask ourselves how they come into our country. Government should provide security to all people and not a few individuals. ”

He urged Ugandans to always live at peace with others and they reflect on the life of Jesus who died so they lively freely.

“Killing is sinful whether by a Christian or Muslim. We must stay on course of being guided by Biblical values.”

The man of God raised his voice on telecom companies that have failed to be useful in helping fight crime in the country.

He said that most of the people are killed by people who communicate using phones but noted that these companies have not used technology they own to be able to track criminals.

Corruption

The man of God decried the rampant corruption especially in government bodies and agencies

Recently, the Office of the Prime Minister was hit by a fresh corruption scandal in which its officials connived with counterparts from United Nation High Commission for Refugees who chewed money by inflating the number of refugees.

Archbishop Lwanga said it is appalling that despite increased cases of corruption, a few people have been arrested and prosecuted over the same.

“The criminal investigations department of government should investigate well and bring all offenders to face the law without fear or favour,”the man of God urged.

He called upon government to ensure all involved in crime including security agents involved in criminal activities face the wrath of the law because they too are part of the security problems.

He urged believers to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ adding that it should be a lesson to all by trying to emulate him.
