Fr Musala seeks readmission into catholic church 9 months after quitting

Charismatic priest Fr Anthony Musaala has been readmitted into the catholic church after several years of ‘divorce from the church.”

Musala was readmitted after a liturgical celebration at Rubaga Cathedral whose main celebrant was the archbishop for Kampala, Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.

During the celebration attended by a legion of priests, Musaala who wore no mass vestments save for a roman collar and a cassock, was given an opportunity to make a public confession prerequisite to readmission.

Musaala took to the lectern and moved that the roman catholic church is forgiving, he expressed his willingness to return to service.

Also readmitted to the church was Fr Deogratias Sonko who publicly quit the church in July 2016 together with Fr Jacinto Kibuuka and joined the Evangelical Orthodox Church.

However, on May 2017, Fr Sonko wrote back to the catholic church saying he had had a change in heart and wanted to be readmitted.

Fr Musaala  on the other hand was suspended on March 19, 2013 for advocating for marriage among Catholic priests. After several years on suspension, the priest said; “I joined the Brazilian Catholic Apostolic Church on the invitation of Archbishop Leonard Lubega. I have been in contact with him since December, last year (2016). Being a Catholic priest with nowhere to minister, and also not being under any Bishop, I decided to accept.”

Fr Musala was consequently on may 26, 2016 was given a letter of automatic self-excommunication, which meant that the priest was automatically relieved of his eucharistic or clerical duties.

However in October last year, while attending mass at Christ the King church, Fr Musaala expressed willingness to return saying; ““I feel loved, I feel blessed, I feel like I am home. The famous parable of the Prodigal son has insights for anyone who is trying to sort out their lives.  I happen to be one of them. I am on a journey of return to the church, and so the parable is very apt for me.”

A priest is allowed back into catholic church after achieving pontifical clemency through repentance.

Who is Fr musaala?
