Tamale Mirundi joins campaign to save Express FC

Controversial presidential advisor on media affairs Tamale Mirundi has joined the campaign to save faded Uganda Premier League giants Express FC from relegation.

Last week, a campaign dubbed ‘Save Express FC Mukwano Gwabangi’ was launched by fans to save the team that is now teetering in the drop zone from relegation.

According to the acting Express FC CEO, Hamza Jjunju, the motor mouthed Mirundi comes in to help solicit support for the Wankulukuku based Red Eagles.

“He is one of our fans who will help in recalling fans especially from the Express Elders’ Fans Club to help us in our efforts to save the team,”Jjunju said.

Having collected only 19 points out of the possible 63 in the Azam Uganda Premier League, the Red Eagles are 14th on the 16 team log.

The team that has experienced a recent torrid wave of performance last week announced a mobilization drive set for Friday March 23 at the Muteesa II stadium in Wankulukuku.

Among those who first joined the campaign was singer Geoffrey Lutaaya who wept during the launch of the campaign last week over the sinking former champions.

“This is our club. We need to save it now before we are relegated,”Lutaaya said during a media briefing last week.

Makindye East Member of Parliament, Allan Ssewanyana said all efforts to save the team from relegation ought to be embraced because it is part of Uganda’s football history.

According to officials, the Red Eagles that dates back in the 1950s before Uganda’s independence and boasts of six league titles is facing among others, issues related to finances.
