Stanbic Bank sets initiatives to equip youth against unemployment

Stanbic bank has set initiatives to equip youth with technical and financial skills in a bid to curb unemployment.

The initiative under the theme; “Empowering the Job creators of tomorrow,” targets 60 schools and 6,000 students from the different regions across the country.

While launching the National Schools Championship 2018, Barbara Kasekende, the Corporate Social Investment manager of Stanbic bank said, this will equip the youth with soft skills to curtail the rate of unemployment.

‘’As Stanbic bank, this year we are taking the entrepreneur perspective to equip youth with skills. ‘’ Said Kasekende.

‘’The Stanbic National Schools competitions that have been launched will strongly look at the entrepreneur perspective and equipping students with skills that will help them in their daily life.’’

Kasekende said they are targeting secondary school students to curtail the unemployment rate, which is at 74% among the youth in Uganda. ‘

But this will call for youth competition where winners will be selected.

‘’The winners who will walk away with a range of prizes have to participate in a competitive debate, class room tests and oral quiz in order to win," she said.

Martin Moya, a teacher from Kings College Buddo,  ‘applauded Stanbic bank for coming up with such an initiative that will help students acquire Financial and technical skills that are outside their curriculum.

Evelyn Mugisha, last year’s winner for the  Stanbic  Bank National Schools Championship, thanked  Stanbic Bank for giving her a chance to explore and exploit her talents.
