"Its a great moment because I never thought I would be the longest serving IGP.I must appreciate the commander in Chief,"Kayihura said.

A few weeks ago,the new police boss told the parliamentary appointments committee that the force died when Gen.Katumba Wamala left it in 2005.

It simple terms,it meant he was down playing the tenure of Gen.Kayihura.

Speaking of his tenure,Kayihura said he was sorry for any mistakes that he might have committed during his duties.

"If there is anybody whose toes i stepped on, I am sorry. It was not personal but for the good of the country,"he said.

He added," For any failures,we share them as a team as the successes."

The new IGP Ochola applauded president Museveni for giving him the opportunity to serve as police boss.

Ochola however noted that he is grateful to his predecessor whom he said was a key figure in the transformation of the force.

"He played a good role especially in community policing and force ideology.I will continue building on what you started to its conclusion,"Ochola said.
