Parliament vets new IGP Ochola, Security Minister Tumwine today

Parliament is set to vet the newly appointed police chiefs and the new security minister.

On Sunday President Museveni dropped Gen.Kale Kayihura as the Inspector General of Police, replacing him with his deputy Okoth Ochola and military police commander Brig.Muzeeyi Sabiiti was made the Deputy IGP.

Museveni also dropped Lt. Gen, Henry Tumukunde replacing him with Gen.Elly Tumwine as security minister.

According to the clerk to parliament, Jane Kibirige, her office received a communication from the president recommending the appointment of the three people and their subsequent vetting.

“The purpose of this letter is to invite you for a meeting to interact and consider the approval of the presidential nominees and the meeting is scheduled for Wednesday March 7 2018 in the South committee room,” says in part the letter by Kibirige to Members of Parliament on the Appointments Committee.

The letter is also copied to the speaker of parliament, her deputy and the leader of opposition in parliament.
