Villa falters; KCCA FC wins in Uganda Premier League

The battle at the top of the Azam Uganda Premier League gets exciting day by day as each of the top three teams has won and also drawn a game in their last two games .

On Saturday afternoon, record champions SC Villa who had been on a scintillating form faltered after being held to a one all draw by Bright Stars at the Champions Stadium in Mwererwe.

Villa opened the scoring only three minutes after kickoff through Martin Kiiza but the hosts restored parity at home before half time.

At the Star Times stadium in Lugogo, defending champions KCCA FC bounced from dropping points in their previous game to beat Kavumba based Soana FC by a goal to nil, thanks to a Julius Poloto header off a Mustafa Kizza corner to move them to second position.

In other games elsewhere, tax collectors URA FC beat fast declining Police FC two goals to nil, thanks to Herman Wasswa and Moses Sseruyidde at Namboole.

At the Bombo Military stadium, marksman Suleiman Majjananjaro’s penalty was enough for army side UPDF to beat new league entrants Mbarara City by a goal to nil and make the Kakyeeka side’s journey to Bombo fruitless.

Record champions SC Villa are at the summit of the Azam Uganda Premier League on 37 points, just a point above second and third placed KCCA FC and Vipers SC respectively.

In the relegation zone, Wankulukuku base Express FC are still languishing at the bottom with just a mere 16 points from 19 games whereas Masavu are second from bottom.

On the top scorer’s sheet, Vipers’ Dan ‘Mzee’ Sserunkuuma is leading with ten goals.
