Mak Varsity lecturer implicated in sexual harassment case suspended
Makerere University has suspended Dr Swizen Kyomuhendo, a senior lecturer in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration (SWASA) on allegations of Sexual Harassment.
The suspension was sanctioned by Makerere University Vice-Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe saying it will allow smooth investigations into allegations labelled against him.

Ritah Namisango, the University Senior Publicist says the Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has also set up an Investigation Committee to handle the matter at hand. She, however, says that the names of the investigation Committee members are withheld, given the sensitivity of the matter.
Dr Kyomuhendo has been asked to hand over all University property including students' scripts that are in his possession and any other work in progress under his care. He is also advised to desist from any access to the College premises and interactions with any student of Makerere University until investigations are complete.
Dr Kyomuhendo was accused of sexually exploiting female students in exchange for marks. In the story, that first aired on NBS television, the lecturer is seen enticing one of his students to a lodge to have "some fun". The victim claimed that the lecturer had promised to adjust her marks if she 'cooperated.'
Dr Kyomuhendo, however, denied engaging in any act of sexual harassment when reporters sought him out on phone for a comment.
The university had written to Dr Kyomuhendo through the acting principal in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Associate Prof Josephine Ahikire, to come clean on the matter by yesterday Thursday, March 1, 2018. He had earlier offered to resign but the appointment board rejected the resignation on condition that he had to answer to allegations against him.
However, the University Council, in a meeting held yesterday advised that the lecturer steps aside to enable investigations on the matter.
