Kirumira asks police court for protection over assailants following him

Former Buyende District Police Commander ASP Muhammad Kirumira has asked the police court for protection from unknown assailants.

Kirumira who is accused of a number of offences related to torture,extortion and unnecessary exercise of authority was recently released on bail.

On Thursday,the maverick police officer told the court chaired by Denis Odongpiny that he is concerned over two motorcycles that keep following him.

He told court that he has reported a case at Lungujja police post before  asking  for Protection whenever he is going  to the police court at Naguru  and the Professional Standards Unit in Bukoto as part of his bail conditions.

However,in response,Odongpiny said he could rule on the matter next week when all members of the court are available. He adjourned the case to Tuesday March 6.

Prosecution alleges that Kirumira  committed the offences while  he was still  in-charge of Nansana Police Station in Wakiso District and Old Kampala as division police commander in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Prosecution also alleges that Kirumira used his powers to torture civilians and extort money from them citing one Aramathan Kakooza who is alleged to have been tortured until the victim paid Shs350,000 to reclaim his freedom.

Kirumira is also accused of using his powers to release a suspected drug dealer after being paid Shs4.8 million.
