Nadduli lashes at Bamugemereire's commission

The minister without Portfolio Hajj Abdul Nadduli has lashed at the Land Commission after reports that it had recommended for the abolition of mailo land tenure system in its report to President Museveni.

Nadduli said: I am a member of this government but I cannot accept it to take people’s land, we cannot do that because its done elsewhere’."

The commission however clarified that they had not made such a recommendation.

In a statement released by the commission on 21 February, it stated: "The Commission has not recommended the abolition of ownership rights currently represented by Mailo land tenure. Mailo land is a form of freehold in Buganda and some parts of Bunyoro, with some peculiar historical characteristics, which the Commission recognises. There are other forms of freehold available in Buganda and other parts of Uganda."

Nadduli also lashed at religious leaders who have made it a habit to attack president Museveni on the pulpit.

He said those who want to change government should wait for elections and vote Museveni out instead of making inciteful statements.
