Kadaga halts censure motion against minister Kasaija

Featured

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga yesterday halted the Parliamentary process of impeaching the Minister for Finance Matia Kasaijja for failing to account for a $ 200 million loan that was meant for the procurement of drugs by the National Medical Stores.

Kadaga instead directed the Auditor General to carry our a forensic audit of the money and report to Parliament by March 28.

Parliament had been expected to begin the process of passing a vote of no confidence in Kasaija  and legislators had come in large numbers ready to flag off the process.

The situation was saved by Kadaga.

Some MPs whoever argued that there was no need to carry out a special audit by the Auditor General since Parliament had investigated the matter extensively.
