Makindye East MP Ibrahim Kasozi has been summoned by police to record a statement on murder, treason and terrorism  related charges, The Nile Post can reveal.

In a letter dated January 18 and addressed to to the Speaker of Parliament, a copy of which Nile Post has seen,

police says the crimes were committed between 2014 and 2015.

“Summon to record statement with police in respect of case of conspiracy to commit crime vide Kajjansi CRB 81/ 2014,” a letter dated January 18th 2018 reads in part.

The letter, sanctioned and signed off by the Inspector general of Police Gen Kale Kayihura, requests the Speaker of parliament to implore MP Kasozi to appear before Commandant CID Kampala metropolitan on January 24 (last Wednesday). He did not appear on the appointed date.

What is however not clear are particulars of the incidents that  landed the MP  treason and murder charges.

“This request is in pursuant of section 27(a) of police Act of on subject of procurement of information,” Gen Kayihura writes in the letter.

In 2005, during the trial of suspects linked to the alleged treasonous activities of Ugandan Canadian based cardiologist Dr Aggrey Kiyingi, Ibrahim Kasozi’s name was cited as one of the accomplices, together with Aisha Nakasibante. Nakasibante being a sister in law to Dr. Kiyingi.

However,  then, it never came out clearly whether it is the Ibrahim Kasozi listed on the charge sheet is the Makindye East MP.

We couldn’t not easily reach the MP for a comment because he didn’t pick our phone calls to his known number.

But the Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima neither denied nor confirmed the summonses.

“I don’t know about the matter but send me the letter. I have not seen any please send it to me,” Kayima said.

A family member to the embattled MP who spoke on condition of anonymity, says the treason and murder charges have left the legislator puzzled.

We have been told that the MP has been trying to seek audience with President Museveni but with no avail.

“Kasozi questions the timing of these cases, and thinks they are tramped up , the reason he is seeking audience with the president,” a family source told Nile Post.

Treason, murder and terrorism are capital offences which attract the death penalty upon conviction.
